Position Summary:The Operating Engineer is responsible for the function and operation of oil and gas fired high pressure boilers and related equipmentThe Operating Engineer is responsible for operating and maintaining the high pressure boilers to ensure uninterrupted utility service to Deaconess Medical Center and the Deaconess Health and Education Center buildings. The Engineer's direct responsibilities include but not limited to: minor boiler equipment repair and adjustment as required; maintenance and performing periodic tests on Emergency Generators and related equipment; maintaining daily logs; water testing includes water softeners, boiler log, steam usage, and other utility usage; providing routine repair and maintenance of some or all of the following systems as directed by the Supervisors - Air Conditioning, steam, hot water heating, chilled water, air distribution systems, medical gas systems, pneumatic tube systems, electrical systems, mechanical/electrical beds, refrigeration and other systems. The engineer may repair, maintain, install mechanical and electrical equipment in accordance with diagrams, sketches, operational manuals and manufacturer's specifications as directed. May also lubricate and clean equipment, may be required to make or repair parts with shop tools such as a lathe, drill press, grinder, welding equipment etc. In emergency situations, the Operating Engineer; responds by making appropriate, immediate repairs until a Supervisor or Maintenance Engineer II can assess the total situation; identifies needs for specific repair parts and materials to Supervisors; and maintains good housekeeping within the steam plant.
Minimum Requirements: Two (2) years experience as a boiler operator
Education/Licenses/Certifications: High School Diploma or Equivalent Knowledge of High Pressure boilers and boiler related equipmentMinimum Second Class Stationary Engineer's License; First Class License Preferred
