FACILITY OPERATIONS-IUB (BL-PHYP-IUBLA)

The IU Office of Sustainability, housed in IU Capital Planning and Facilities, identifies and promotes sustainable solutions that reduce environmental impacts while supporting an equitable and prosperous IU, now and into the future. The Office leads sustainability efforts at IU Bloomington and IUPUI, while providing sustainability support to the regional IU campuses. Department Specific Responsibilities

• Leads protocol standardization and assessment of university-wide sustainability and reporting, specifically greenhouse gas inventories via SIMAP, STARS reporting, and other industry-standard ESG tools for all IU campuses.
• Supports the University Director of Sustainability in informed strategic planning and coordination of sustainability programming via data acquisition and tracking; development of policy and program recommendations; and program documentation and evaluation.
• Identifies and prioritizes institutional sustainability efforts for application on all IU campuses. Develops and recommends university-wide policies related to promoting a culture of sustainability and stewardship of resources.
• Co-facilitates connections and collaboration within the IU system to support sustainability initiatives. Researches and stays up to date on new industry sustainability standards; responsible for the implementation of new protocols/procedures. Identifies and writes grants to procure external funding and supervises grant-funded projects as needed. Mentors and manages a team of student interns.
• Serves as a campus educational resource and spokesperson for sustainability information, best practices, data, principles, conservation, LEED standards, product and equipment selection, and other sustainability issues.
• Represents Indiana University through public speaking and teaching engagements on campus, in the state, and at regional and national conferences.
• Pursues opportunities for external funding as needed.

General Responsibilities

• Oversees sustainability engagement programs and/or initiatives, including green certification, outreach campaigns, sustainability continuing education and professional development courses, environmental quality and land use, resource use and recycling, transportation, etc.
• Develops and presents project and program proposals, plans and specifications, cost estimates, and budget recommendations; engages university and external/community constituents in sustainability efforts.
• Manages data acquisition, tracking, and reporting of campus sustainability. Evaluates and tracks success metrics, impact, and outcomes for programs and initiatives.
• Reports national sustainability rankings and provides plans and makes recommendations for improvement.
• Reviews and monitors projects in progress to ensure budget control, timely completion, and adherence to outlined objectives and strategic goals. Develops and proposes solutions and implements modifications as appropriate, escalating only the most complex matters.
• Researches industry policies and best practices in sustainability and incorporates findings into educational outreach.
• Regularly provides guidance to lower-level Sustainability Specialists.
• Makes procedural and process recommendations to supervisor for improved operational efficiency.

EDUCATION

Required

• Bachelor's degree in environmental science, sustainability science, education, policy, or related field

Preferred

• Master's degree

WORK EXPERIENCE

Required

• 5 or more years in environmental science, sustainability science, education, policy, or related field

Combinations of related education and experience may be considered

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES

Preferred

• Sustainability Certification (SEA/SEP, LEED GA/ LEED AP, etc)

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus.
