The intern will learn about all phase of the Miner Institute Agricultural Research Institute's nutrient management research farm on our 500-head Holstein dairy. The research aims to identify agricultural practices that will enhance soil and water quality while maintaining farm profitability. Students will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of research trials, as well as conduct their own independent research project. Students will gain experience in all aspects of the research process including soil and water sample collection, field data acquisition, field equipment programming/maintenance, laboratory instrumentation/analytical methods, as well as basic data management and application. The student will also have the opportunity to experience the day-to-day activities on the farm which features a high producing dairy herd and 1300 acres of corn and grassland for forage production.
Available to students entering their junior year or later. Agronomy, environmental science, or related major preferred.
