The Painter is responsible for supporting repair and renovation of surfaces by applying decorative and protective finishes to wood, metal and other surfaces.
Duties & Essential Job Functions:
1. Prepares work to be accomplished by reviewing work order, assembling materials, mixing a variety of surface materials. 2. Prepares and finishes surfaces by cleaning, sanding and applying base or protective finishes in preparation of final surface material; mixing and applying paints, enamels, stains, shellac, varnishes, or other finishes using brushes, sprayers, or rollers; mixing paints and matching colors using proper proportions of pigment, oil, base, and thinner on interior and exterior surfaces; taping and bedding sheetrock. 3. Ensures finished product quality by applying industry standards and procedures; measuring results against standards. 4. Maintains supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed supplies; placing and expediting orders for supplies; verifying receipt of supplies. 5. Complies with federal, state and local building codes by adhering to requirements; advising management on needed actions. 6. Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules and regulations. 7. Ensures operation of tools and equipment used in the job by completing preventive maintenance requirement; following manufacturer’s instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs; maintaining equipment inventories; evaluating new equipment and techniques. 8. Maintains continuity among work teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities and continuing needs. 9. Serves as functional lead for paint team. 10. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Education & Experience:
• High school diploma, GED or equivalency • 2 years’ of painting experience.
• Knowledge of material and surface preparation. • Knowledge of basic record keeping techniques. • Skill in mixing and applying surface materials. • Skill in using basic hand tools. • Ability to operate related equipment.

• Visual acuity to read information from computer screens, forms and other printed materials and information. • Able to speak (enunciate) clearly in conversation and general communication. • Hearing ability for verbal communication/conversation/responses via telephone, telephone systems, and face-to-face interactions. • Manual dexterity for typing, writing, standing and reaching, flexibility, body movement for bending, crouching, walking, kneeling, climbing ladders and stairs, and prolonged sitting. • Lifting and moving objects and equipment up to 50 lbs.
• Work is indoors/outdoors and not sedentary and is subject to schedule changes and/or variable work hours. • This role is an on campus, in-person position. • May be exposed to hazardous materials and noxious fumes on a daily basis. • The noise level in this work environment is usually moderate.
