The City of Anaheim Public Utilities Department seeks a Senior Product Development Specialist to provide supervisory and technical expertise in the development, research and recommendation of new cost effective, energy efficient, products and services for Anaheim businesses and residents. Anaheim Public Utilities' mission is to add value to the community through a customer-focused approach to providing reliable, high-quality water and power at affordable rates. 

Candidates must possess at least six (6) years of increasingly responsible experience in the development and acquisition of technical services and products in the electric utility industry, supplemented by a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in business, electrical engineering, public administration, or a related field. Competitive candidates will also possess at least two (2) years of administrative and supervisory experience.

Experience and Education: Six (6) years of increasingly responsible experience in the development and acquisition of technical services and products in the electric utility industry, supplemented by a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in business, electrical engineering, public administration, or a related field. An equivalent combination of experience and education sufficient to perform the essential job functions and provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.

Knowledge of: Methods and techniques used in new product development; effective and modern customer research tools and techniques; energy efficiency and demand reduction measures; energy service product offerings; technical power quality, power monitoring, and process engineering principles and practices; pricing and incentive mechanisms; customer needs and expectations; effective product and service evaluation techniques; effective marketing techniques; negotiation techniques; contract and agreement development and monitoring policies and procedures; analytical techniques; product testing methods; problem solving techniques; energy efficiency and greenhouse gas legislation; principles of supervision, training, and performance evaluation; basic principles and practices of budget preparation and administration; principles and procedures of record keeping; principles of business letter writing and basic report preparation; office procedures, methods, and equipment including computers and applicable software applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, and databases; pertinent federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations.

Ability to: Understand highly complex technical products; acquire products and services and market them to customers; envision and create new products and services; conduct effective and meaningful customer research; compile, analyze and draw logical conclusions of a variety of data and information; appropriately set product and service prices; determine customer segment potential; develop effective marketing materials and campaigns; identify and resolve problems; negotiate and prepare contracts and agreements; prepare a variety of narrative and statistical reports; make effective oral presentations; deal diplomatically and professionally with customers, vendors and the public; write clear, concise and accurate reports including recommendations and implementation strategies; and communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; and establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

License/Certification Required: Possession of an appropriate, valid driver’s license.
