Join a dedicated team of land managers to protect, preserve, restore, and maintain natural parks, preserves and reserves for Sarasota County utilizing various resource management techniques while providing opportunities for nature-based recreation and programming.
Job Description:
Participate in all aspects of prescribed fire planning and operations.
Implement, document, monitor, and develop management strategies for the removal of invasive plant and animal species using best integrated pest management practices.
Prepare and implement management plans.
Evaluate habitats (natural and altered) to formulate management strategies for their restoration and maintenance.
Routinely inspect natural area park/preserve public use amenities, structures, and facilities.
Provide contractor oversight for habitat management projects.
Report and document preparation (Interoffice reports, GIS, and grant agencies).
Work closely with Procurement Office and business units in developing bids, annual agreements, and other contracts.
Prepare bid specifications, and contractor oversight for projects to be performed by an outside contractor.
Collaborate with other Sarasota County Departments, State, County, Federal agencies and other stakeholders.
Participate in public outreach and develop materials for public education/interpretation and events.
Develop interagency agreements for cooperative natural resource management on County-owned lands.
About You
Minimum Qualifications:
Valid Florida driver's license, or ability to obtain by start date.
Bachelor's Degree in one of the biological or physical sciences, Environmental Engineering or a related field
Three (3) years of professional related experience.
- OR - Master's Degree may substitute for one-year of professional experience.
- OR - Progressively responsible professional experience may substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required college degree.
Ability to obtain Florida Forest Service Prescribed Burn Manager Certification and moderate or arduous pack test within one-year from date of hire and must maintain pack test annually to remain in job classification.
Ability to obtain FDACS pesticide applicator license within six (6) months of employment.

ICS 100-300 and NIMS 700 & 800
Certified NATA Natural Areas Manager
Subject to Passing Substance Screening: This position is subject to passing a pre-employment substance screening. An applicant who fails to pass a required drug screening test shall be disqualified from employment in any class for a period of five (5) years.
