Platte River is seeking a power origination manager to manage the procurement process and contracts for near and longer-term structured energy transactions and power purchase and sale agreements. We’re seeking a highly organized individual with strong communication and interpersonal skills for this position that works cross-functionally and collaboratively with our resource planning, operations, finance and legal teams.
Essential duties and responsibilities
Directs energy procurement solicitations, including soliciting offers, developing potential deal structures, negotiating pricing and identifying new market opportunities
Develops and implements a strategy for obtaining generator interconnections for new resources and new transmission service requests to facilitate purchases and sales of power supply resources
Develops and manages relationships with counterparties by facilitating the origination and working with legal to negotiate of master agreements, confirmations, and other complex short and long-term contracts
Exhibits expertise and continual growth of knowledge in market fundamental and trends, emerging technologies and act as a resource to various teams
Prepares detail reports and presentations
Communicates origination strategies and product structures to internal and external stakeholders
Responds to external data requests and stay informed of state, local and federal regulatory policies and actions that impact energy and capacity procurement and emissions reporting
Maintains new renewable projects pipeline, Levelized Cost of Energy (LCOE) by technology and geography to develop a renewable procurement strategy
Other duties
This role is classified as a marketing function employee under Federal Energy Regulatory Commission Standards of Conduct. Be familiar with and follow FERC Standards of Conduct
Develops reports and presentations for business meetings, senior staff meetings and the Board of Directors
Participates in professional organizations, trade shows and conferences
Performs other duties as assigned
Knowledge, skills and abilities
Aptitude for analytical and financial modeling
Knowledge of the energy industry including regulated and de-regulated electricity markets and project financing structures and key value drivers
Demonstrated experience in SPP and western US electrical renewable, and gas markets
Experience with energy, capacity, emissions, REC and Master Agreements (EEI, WSPP)
Experience developing strategies for complex and competitive situations involving multiple variables
Experience interacting with state, local and federal regulatory agencies
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare reports and present complex technical information to a wide audience, in non-technical language
Experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access, and proficient in using Microsoft Teams
Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and analytical skills with high attention to detail
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as a team member
Deep knowledge of U.S. power markets and renewable energy project development
Proven negotiation and deal-making skills
Ability to provide excellent customer services working with Senior Management and various departments
Education and licenses
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business, economics or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience
Current valid driver’s license and ability to remain insurable under company vehicle liability policy.
Required work experience
Four years of experience in functions related to utility scale renewables, preferably in an origination or development role, contract origination, contract negotiation, contract management, electricity trading/marketing, execution of power sale agreements or project management
Preferred work experience and education
Seven or more years of experience in functions related to utility scale renewables, preferably in an origination or development role, contract origination, contract negotiation, contract management, electricity trading/marketing, execution of power sale agreements or project management
Physical demands
Minimal physical effort typically found in clerical work. Primarily sedentary, may occasionally lift and carry light objects and minimal walking or standing as needed.

Minimal exposure to hazards are typically found in general office environment where there is rarely to no exposure to injury or accident

Bi-weekly salary range for position: $4,760 - $6,545 (placement DOQ) (range if annualized: $123,765 - $170,169)
