Identifies and defines research objectives related to basic and applied research on soil carbon sequestration and soil quality, in coordination with IICA with Institute of International Cooperation in Agriculture (IICA), San Jose, Costa Rica. Develops and takes part in pertinent activities to strengthen inter-disciplinary research on soil carbon sequestration. Performs soil analyses and and evaluates soil quality index. Evaluates, collates, tabulates, and synthesizes data relevant to training of farmers and for identification of recommended management practices (RMPs). Assists in teaching classes and conducting laboratory practicals at the Ohio State University. Prepares educational materials and presents virtual seminars to farmers/ranchers/land managers and communicates regarding recommended management practices. Prepares and submits grant proposals for external funding, writes general summary reports for dissemination, compiles project reports, and prepares research results for publication as journal articles and book chapters. Manages the grant funds of the project submitted by the incumbent such as assignments and scheduling, monitoring of project funds, coordination of data generation and analysis and identification, acquisition and use of equipment and facilities. Trains junior investigators, potential investigators, and support personnel; conducts continuing education for research personnel at all levels. Maintains liaison with IICA and other sponsoring agencies and organizations as well as with other research and educational institutions involved in cooperative projects.
This position, under the direct supervision of Dr. Rattan Lal, is a Term position and will continue for the length of time for which external funding has already been secured, and extension of the appointment will occur only when full funding is in hand for future salary. This position will only be granted Co-PI status at OSU, and the Research Scientist would be expected to collaborate with one of our SENR faculty that would be lead PI on future grant proposals.
