The University of Cincinnati's College-Conservatory of Music is recruiting a Scene Shop Foreman that will assist with building of props and scenery for all productions produced by the Theatre Arts, Production, Arts Admin (TAPAA) Department. This position will also assist faculty and staff Technical Director with educational mission by having the scene shop and 3 performing spaces (theaters) act as lab portion of classes.
Assist with the set-up and tear-down of scenery and props
Supervision of scene shop students. Answer students' questions, check work to ensure students are following directions, and oversee student, shop and tool safety.
Hire, supervise, track and submit payroll for hourly student workers.
Assist with the tracking of Freshmen shop hours for class credit. (Each Freshman must work 6 hours per week in the scene shop for class labs)
Maintain and repair tools and equipment. Improve facility functionality.
Assist with the maintenance of facilities and all storage spaces, both on and off campus.
Assist with inventory control.
Maintain the scene shop calendar/schedule and share with other faculty and staff positions.
Assist with property/scenery rentals.
Provide a positive atmosphere for production area majors and non-majors.
Assist with evening and weekend load-ins and tech rehearsals as necessary.
Evening and weekend hours required.
Assign work; ensure proper workflow of the unit; act as lead worker.
May provide direct and/or indirect supervision to exempt and non-exempt staff (i.e., hiring/firing, performance evaluations, disciplinary action, approve time off, etc.).
Six (6) years of relevant work experience and/or other specialized training can be used in lieu of education requirement.
Two (2) years professional scene shop experience.
The ideal candidate will be skilled in theater carpentry, furniture carpentry, welding and rigging, as well have knowledge of standard theater and scene shop practices, in addition to Microsoft Office and AutoCAD.
Additional Qualifications Considered
Automation and mechanical design experience desired but not required.
Extensive experience with tool maintenance, stationary and portable, highly desired.
