Job Objective: Performs high-level administrative, technical, and professional work in directing and supervising the administration of the Lower 48 West Land Department staff located in Houston, Tx. to achieve company goals.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
Manages and supervises the Lower 48 West Land Department staff to achieve goals within available resources. Plans and organizes workloads and staff assignments.
Trains, motivates, and evaluates Lower 48 West Land Department staff. Reviews progress of Lower 48 West Land Department staff and directs changes as needed.
Provides leadership and direction in the development of short and long-range plans for the Lower 48 West Land Department staff.
Gathers, interprets, and prepares Lower 48 West Land Department data for studies, reports and recommendations.
Coordinates Lower 48 West Land Department activities with other departments and offices, as needed.
Provides professional advice to the Senior Vice President, Lower 48 and other department heads.
Reports regularly to Hilcorp’s Senior Vice President Land on progress of projects, and personnel issues as they arise.
Makes presentations to governmental regulatory commissions, boards, civic and community groups, and the general public.
Assures that assigned areas of Land Department responsibilities in the Lower 48 West are performed within budget.
Performs Lower 48 West Land cost control activities.
Assists Senior Vice President Land with annual Land Department budget as well as quarterly budget reviews.
Assures effective and efficient use of Lower 48 West Land Department budgeted funds, personnel, materials, facilities, and time.
Determines Lower 48 West Land Department work procedures, prepares work schedules, and expedites workflow.
Studies and standardizes procedures to improve efficiency and effectiveness of Lower 48 West Land Department staff operations.
Assigns Lower 48 West Land Department staff duties and examines work for exactness, neatness, and conformance to policies and procedures.
Prepares a variety of land studies, reports, and related information regarding the Lower 48 West area for decision-making purposes by either the Senior Vice President, Lower 48 or Hilcorp’s Senior Vice President Land.
Coordinates all Lower 48 West Land Department personnel decisions and recommendations for approval by Hilcorp’s Senior Vice President Land. Performs annual Lower 48 West Land Department staff employee evaluations.
Reviews and modifies company contract forms to ensure up-to-date terms and provisions.
Adheres to the company’s values – integrity, ownership, urgency, alignment and innovation.
Supports company vision and mission.
Adheres to established work schedule, attendance standards and is punctual to work and meetings.
Other Job Responsibilities:
Other duties as assigned by management.
Rockies (Federal and State) land experience required.
Previous land manager with supervisory experience.
Fifteen (15) years of progressively responsible landman experience.
Working knowledge and understanding of various commercial aspects of the oil and gas industry, such as crude oil and gas marketing, and geophysical and seismic trades.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Outstanding management, administrative, and organizational skills.
Ability to make and implement sound decisions when faced with multi-faceted problems. Ability to demonstrate strong, dynamic team leadership skills.
Working knowledge of oil and gas laws, rules, and regulations of New Mexico, Colorado and Wyoming.
Working knowledge of geology, engineering, accounting, and regulatory responsibilities as they apply to the oil and gas industry. Excellent negotiation skills with intra/inter-company personnel.
Proficiency in the use and application of the following software:
Required: Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint).
Required: Bachelor of Business Administration Degree from an accredited four-year university or college.
Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four-year university or college with a degree in Petroleum Land Management or equivalent degree, or JD.
