Responsible for performing a variety of skilled duties related to preparing surfaces for painting, mixing paints and applying all types of paints, textures, coverings and protective coatings to College buildings and facilities.
Responsible for painting many different surfaces both interior and exterior.
Uses various paints including oils, latex, stain finishes, etc.
Responsible for the care and maintenance of painting tools and equipment.
Responsible for following through on assigned work orders.
Moving furniture as necessary.
Work occasional overtime or off hours to complete projects.
Duties may involve snow shoveling on occasion.
Contributes to a campus environment that embraces community through mutual respect of those with different cultures or backgrounds
Other duties as may be assigned and/or necessary.
Education and Experience: High School Diploma/GEDAND five (5) years of full time experience in painting, taping, drywall, and refinishing in a commercial setting; OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Proficient and Competent experience in the following interior and exterior tasks:
Cutting, rolling and spraying paint. Experience in the use, care and maintenance of commercial paint spraying equipment.
Tinting, mixing and matching paints and stains.
Drywall installation, repair, taping and finishing. Plastering and plaster repair. Wall and ceiling texturing. Wood coating and refinishing. Installation and repair of wall coverings.
Ability and awareness to safely work with and around lead containing and lead based paint within established MDH and OSHA standards and guidelines.
Ability to safely use, store and handle a variety of products and chemicals used in painting.
Must be able to work effectively with team members; showing respect for differences in background, viewpoint and culture.
Must be able to become a member of Local 70 after 30 days of employment.
Good attendance is necessary.
Employment for this position is contingent upon the results of a favorable background check.
Valid drivers license and able to meet College policy for authorized driver of College vehicles.

When required, be able to properly use fall protection equipment as well as all other related personal protective equipment. Good hand/arm/shoulder agility. Ability to work overhead for extended periods of time. Ability to lift 50 pounds from floor to standing position and carry a distance of 50 feet. ( i.e. 5 gal pails of paint). Ability to pass without restriction, an OSHA respiratory medical evaluation and be able to wear a full face or half mask air purifying respirator.
Work is subject to performance under adverse environmental conditions, exposure to biohazards, electrical shock dust, and hazardous chemicals, in confined spaces and from heights.
