Job Description:The Department of Entomology in the College of Agriculture and Life Science seeks a Program Specialist II positions to implement state-wide efforts related to pest resistance management (i.e., Iowa Pest Resistance Management Program) and monarch/pollinator conservation (i.e., Iowa Monarch Conservation Strategy). Under general supervision, this position will be coordinating and facilitating workgroup meetings and tracking priorities and progress with collaborators from Iowa State University/CALS, LAS, Extension Service; the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship (IDALS), the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, USDA; Iowa and national farm organizations, cooperatives, agricultural retailers, certified crop advisers, independent crop advisers, land management firms, pesticide companies, and conservation and environmental NGOs. The successful candidate will also promote the two programs through creation of outreach materials and outreach activities as well as synthesize and document reporting outcomes to the Iowa Monarch Conservation Consortium and the Iowa Pest Resistance Management Program. The successful candidate will possess excellent organization skills, excellent communication skills to ensure ongoing communication both to and from stakeholders and the ISU team, as well as the ability to accurately portray, communicate and develop audience-appropriate materials. The successful candidate will help promote multi-organization collaboration in meeting State and county-wide goals. In some cases this coordination will involve community-based problem solving. The ability to work in a fast-paced environment will be essential to the success of this position. Position requires in-state travel which may include occasional overnight stays as well some evening and weekend responsibilities. This is a full time, regular position with fixed term appointment. All accrued vacation must be used during term of appointment or will be forfeited.
