Operates equipment and performs manual labor necessary to maintain vegetation, in green infrastructure features, recreational features, and hardscape features; to ensure the enjoyment and safety of the public on San Antonio River Authority property.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

• Maintains a cooperative relationship with governmental agencies, adjoining property owners, the public, and specifically out-of-town visitors to River Authority managed properties to ensure the public’s safety and enjoyment of their time in the area.
• Represents the River Authority in a professional manner with a customer-oriented demeanor and promotes appreciation of the river and natural resource stewardship.
• Knowledge of various green infrastructure best management practices, including but not limited to green roofs, rainwater harvesting (cisterns, rain barrels), right-of-way bioswales, permeable pavement, rain gardens, stormwater tree pits, and infiltration planters.
• Operates and maintains equipment such as: power tools (drills, grinders, etc.), hand tools (hoes, shovels, rakes, pruners, etc.), mowers, weed-eaters, tractors, vehicles, and other equipment commonly used for vegetative and slope maintenance.
• Implements corrective actions as needed including irrigating, and/or applying herbicide, and pesticide or fertilizer
• Identifies vegetation species and various stages of growth requiring attention to detail of a wide variety of native and non-native plant species
• Operates and maintains PTO (Power Take Off) and motor driven pumps, traveling irrigation equipment, and other similar agricultural equipment for supplemental watering.
• Installs and repairs irrigation systems and basic maintenance of wireless and stationary irrigation control box.
• Manually loads trucks with sand, gravel, or waste material.
• Responsible for the careful and proper use of equipment and materials assigned.
• Responds to emergencies and performs on-site repairs to equipment and structural improvements as needed.
• Performs routine maintenance checks on equipment, vehicles, and structures.
• All other duties as assigned.
