Department: Mail Services Salary/Grade: EXS/9 Job Summary: Reporting directly to the Executive Director, Procurement and Payment Services, the Manager, Logistics will oversee Mail Services, Shipping and Receiving on both campuses as well as the Lab Gas/Dry Ice Program. All of these functions must be performed both with a high degree of independence and with integrity. This position will maintain a close working relationships with all other units within Procurement and Payment Services as well as departments and schools across Northwestern. Specific Responsibilities: Manage all aspects of Mail Services, including the following: - Maintain appropriate policies and procedures.
- Review and analyze monthly budget statements, as well as other internal reports to keep informed of the overall production and financial picture; implement price adjustments when needed.
Supervisor activities: - Make recommendations to Executive Director/HR regarding suspension and/or termination, based on previous history and documentation of warning status.
- Interview, hire, and maintain appropriate staff levels; provide direct supervision of staff; plan, assign, and review work activities.
- Meet regularly with managers and staff supervisors regarding questions, problems, dissemination of information, etc.
- Develop and implement staff training in policies and procedures.
Manage all aspects of Shipping and Receiving in Evanston and Chicago, including the following: - Maintain appropriate policies and procedures.
- Review and analyze monthly budget statements, as well as other internal reports to keep informed of the overall production and financial picture; implement price adjustments when needed.
Supervisor activities: - Make recommendations to Personnel regarding suspension and/or termination, based on previous history and documentation of warning status.

- Responsible for cost accounting activities.
Supervisor activities: - Make recommendations to Personnel regarding suspension and/or termination, based on previous history and documentation of warning status.
- Interview, hire, and maintain appropriate staff levels; oversight of staff; direct supervision of staff; plans, assigns, and reviews work activities.
- Meets regularly with managers, department assistants and staff supervisors regarding questions, problems, dissemination of information, etc.
- Develops, implements and trains staff in policies and procedures.
Communication: Internal: - Maintain effective working relationships with departments and schools at Northwestern, especially to identify future partnership opportunities.
- Represent Procurement and Payment Services at various internal meetings
External: - Serve as representative of Northwestern to the vendor community.
- Represent Northwestern at relevant industry conferences and events.
Miscellaneous: - Maintain cutting edge knowledge of industries and analyzes trends and new developments as they may pertain to and affect Northwestern University.
- Mediate resolution of issues and implement changes to prevent reoccurrence.
- Provide input into policy, forms, newsletter, procurement strategy, web site, training, etc.
Minimum Qualifications: - Bachelor’s degree in business and management or related field required.
- Five to ten years of procurement related experience.
- Extensive knowledge of the principles and practices of purchasing, eprocurement, and customer service experience.
- Proven record of effective relationship-building with internal and external stakeholders
- Demonstrated experience collaborating as part of a team.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
- Strong computer skills, especially with word processing and spreadsheets.
- Experience managing multiple people.

Preferred Qualifications: - Experience working at a higher education institution.
Preferred Competencies: (Skills, knowledge, and abilities) - Proficiency with PeopleSoft Financials.
- Exhibit continual improvement by attending relative training courses and seminars/conferences.
